It would be nice to have a way to quickly trace family connections that are spread over several generations and may not be easily obvious. For example, if you could type in "Start Family" and then type in "Connection To" and PAW would trace the families showing where the connecting individual(s) is (are).

The closest feature to your suggestion that is currently in PAWriter is Person menu > Show Relationship to This Person by Name (or by RIN). There you specify a person by name or RIN to find his/her relationship to the current person. The result shows the relationship (e.g., sixth cousin once removed) and the common ancestor (if there is one). With this information it's possible to track back from the two people to the common ancestor. Then you can choose Tag menu > Tag Lineage From the common ancester, to this person and to the other person, if you wish to see the tracks in terms of tagged ancestors. (I should note that in a few cases the algorithm for finding a relationship will not find the nearest relationship; it may in those few cases find a more distant relationship through a more distant ancestor. That can't be avoided since searching for all possibilities would be far too expensive; it's a combinatorial problem.)

I would like to be able to telephone someone at PAWRITER to ask questions. In particular, how do I "drag" the example "scrapbook" file out of the download and stick the thing into PAW2U? It doesn't "drag", I cannot seem to "copy and paste". Where is the box titled "Scrapbook" in the Window that lists all the rest of the stuff for the example file?

It doesn't "drag", I cannot seem to "copy and paste". Where is the box titled "Scrapbook" in the Window that lists all the rest of the stuff for the example file? Hi, First, as you can see, this is a one-person operation and my phone number is unavailable to anyone. PAWriter was developed for myself and I decided to share it with anyone who might find it useful. It is not a commercial product. Second, when you download the example Scrapbook folder, just drag it to the Applications folder where PAW2U is stored. That's all that needs to be done. PAWriter will find it there when it needs to. Third, you can save the downloaded ExampleFile anywhere; I suggest your Documents folder. When you double click on it, PAWriter will open and read it. Fourth, when you are done with the example, you should delete the contents of the Scrapbook folder so that images you add are the only ones in the folder. You then should probably delete the ExampleFile and create your own new data file in its place. You have the option of creating a new data file when you just double click on the PAW2U icon. Fifth, I suggest you scan through the Reference Guide available by clicking on the Reference button in the main window of PAWriter, or by choosing it from the Help menu, to familiarize yourself with some of the main features of PAWriter. The first few topics should be read first: Basic Navigation, Basic Data Entry and Basic Reporting. Best regards, Howard
