Hello, I am a new PAW user, and am enjoying it very much. I would like to save my PAW file to my Dropbox account (if you are not familiar with Dropbox, it is a cloud-based file storage service). My hope is to invite my family to add to the file. But PAW does not seem to recognize the file when I open it from another machine. I have two Intel iMacs, and when I create the PAW file on one and save it to my Dropbox account, PAW on the other iMac cannot open it. This happens in both directions. However, I can export a GEDCOM file, save it in Dropbox, and the second machine can import it. This is not really an acceptable workaround; I was simply trying to diagnose the problem. Both iMacs are running version 96 of PAW (although the release dates are slightly different; November 5 and 11 respectively). And, I have had no other difficulties with Dropbox and file formats; it seems to be a simple and effective tool for sharing files. Any suggestions? I think this problem is similar to the iDisk issue that another user has experienced. Thanks!

That probably won't make any difference, but it's a good idea anyway. You can get the updated version 96 from the link in What's New on this forum. Second, make sure that your data file ends in the extension .paw which will make a difference. See the entry "Opening a PAWriter data file in Snow Leopard" under FAQS on this forum. This now applies in general. Third, please note that PAWriter is not the ideal candidate for multi-user collaboration although it can be used that way with care. There are other cloud-based genealogical programs which specialize in collaboration, just don't remember which ones right now. Check the internet. Best, Howard
