PAW2U is the universal binary version of Personal Ancestry Writer II, aka PAWriter.
The following changes were made in this PAWriter version 99 dated 1 July 2011:
Changed to Real Studio 2011 Release 1.1. Technical change only.
Add bug version to Credits if non-zero. Not visible in released versions. Technical change only.
Deleted the Swap method and the File Manager class, and added the SwapFiles method using the MoveFilesTo method. Technical change only.
Trimmed leading spaces from web site "Notes Pedigree Descendants Images" text in SiteGlobal module.
RTF reports and PDFs generated from them are the primary means in PAWriter of publishing genealogical research. The publishing sequence is: (1) Record research in a PAWriter file. (2) Generate the the RTF report file which is most appropriate for publication. (3) Open the RTF report file in a word processor or desktop publishing program (Nisus Writer Pro is recommended) and edit it if and as desired. (4) Save the (possibly edited) report as a PDF. (5) Distribute the PDF file or transmit it to a publisher for publication. The sequence is iterated as necessary.
RTF reports contain a bookmark for each entry in Registers, Ahnentafels, Lineages and Dictionaries. The reports contain hyperlinks to those bookmarks from each place in the report that cross-references an entry (including the entry-numbered index). A hyperlink is a clickable cross-reference entry number in the text of the report, a number which when clicked will jump to the bookmarked page containing that entry. The hyperlinks are active in reports that are opened in Nisus Writer Pro. The hyperlinks are also active in PDFs generated by the Nisus Writer Pro version 2 file menu item “Save as PDF.”
RTF reports contain hidden controls for indexing people’s appearance in the reports. A page-numbered index can be generated by Nisus Writer Pro using these embedded controls, in which the page numbers in the index are hyperlinks to the appearance of people’s names in the reports. The hyperlinks are active in indexes that are generated in Nisus Writer Pro. The hyperlinks are also active in PDFs generated by the Nisus Writer Pro version 2 file menu item “Save as PDF” from reports that contain generated page-numbered indexes. (Of course, the index initially included in each report that references entry (not page) numbers should be deleted prior to generating the hyperlinked page-numbered index.)
RTF reports contain hidden controls for creating a table of contents from major section headings in the reports. They are not active unless the report is saved, closed and reopened. Additional controls can be manually added to the reports as desired. A table of contents can then be generated by Nisus Writer Pro using these embedded controls in which the page numbers in the table of contents are hyperlinks to the major section headings in the reports. The hyperlinks are active in the table of contents entries that are generated in Nisus Writer Pro. The hyperlinks are also active in PDFs generated by the Nisus Writer Pro version 2 file menu item “Save as PDF” from reports that contain a generated table of contents, and also appear in the PDF Table of Contents sidebar in the Preview application and in the Bookmarks Navigation Pane in Adobe Reader.
As noted, all of these hyperlinks are active in reports opened in Nisus Writer Pro and in PDFs generated from the reports in Nisus Writer Pro version 2. In reports opened in Microsoft Word, the table of contents cannot be generated from the included controls, and hyperlinks in page-numbered indexes do not work. The hyperlinks are not active in PDFs generated by Microsoft Word.
Hyperlinks and controls for tables of contents and indexes do not work in reports opened in Pages, TextEdit, Tex-Edit, Quick Look, AppleWorks and other similar programs. Reports opened in BBEdit and TextWrangler simply display the internal RTF code for reports and not the reports themselves. And Preview does not open RTF files.
Only Nisus Writer Pro can export an ebook (in the EPUB format) from an RTF report, complete with all hyperlinks, for transfer to an iOS device (e.g., iPhone or iPad).
Note: Nisus Writer Pro is a fully functional desktop publishing program for MacOS X. Macworld awarded Nisus Writer Pro four and a half mice (out of five) in December 2009, and William Porter said in their review that "Nisus Writer Pro competes with [Microsoft] Word better than any word processor I've seen in a very long time." Nisus Writer Pro was also the winner of the Reader's Choice Awards of 2010 for word processors, with Pages '09 and MS Word 2008 as first and second runners-up. Nisus Writer Pro retails for $79 while Microsoft Office for Mac Home & Student 2011 which contains Microsoft Word retails for $150.
