Howard, I have a nagging question I want to ask. If I create a gedcom and select the "no notes" option, I don't get any notes.
But, if I select notes, for every family I get I get the following:
1 NOTE <Notes for the family of husband and wife:> 1 NOTE <Reference Number: I#
What is the purpose of this? It just seems to clutter up the output and doesn't seem to serve any useful purpose.

Neal Carrier Hi Neal, If you've imported a GEDCOM from another program, and that program permits "family notes" (which PAWriter -- like the old Mac PAF -- doesn't permit), then those notes will have been imported into PAWriter and placed in the notes of the husband (or wife if the husband is unknown). They would look like what you described. Then of course whatever is in a person's notes will be exported from PAWriter without any loss. So if you don't want those notes, you can permanently delete the note lines wherever they appear in people's notes. They just reflect what was in the original imported GEDCOM, and I try to never lose anything when importing -- that would not be in anybody's interest. I guess you have to "blame" the original GEDCOM you imported for having "family notes" that seem to serve no purpose. As I've mentioned in other topics, importing other people's GEDCOMs requires verification of the information they contain and probably a good deal of editing before the information becomes useful. Something about "there's no free lunch." Best regards, Howard

But my gedcoms don't have ANY family notes just Individual notes.
PAWriter puts those two lines in for any individual that is married even those without any individual notes.
It's a pain to go through and manually delete two lines for 2000 instances where this happens.

Hi Neal, Please send me one of your GEDCOMs as an attachment to an email so I can investigate this problem. When I find the source of the problem, I will correct it. Best, Howard
