Hi
I have a problem that I will try and explain. The problem is,
When I have 2 partners say Bob Kentish (My Father) who marries a Julie Smith ( My Mother) and Bob Kentish's sister (Mary) married Julie Smith's Brother (Max). So I have Mary entered twice once as Max partner and for a second time as Bob Kentish's Sister This has happened twice in my tree
Sorry about this as it is very hard to explain.
Luke

Luke Hi Luke, Each person should be entered just once, or there will be big problems down the line. You should enter Bob and Mary under your father's parents. You should enter Julie and Max under their parents. Then you should add a partner for Bob and add Julie as his wife in that family window. Then add a partner for Mary and add Max as her husband in that family window. To add an existing person as a spouse in the family window, click on the "unknown" spouse, press command-F and select the spouse from the list. This way each person is entered just once and the appropriate linkage made. (This is true for any genealogical program.) Given where you are now, you may have to delete the duplicate persons first. Best, Howard

I'm new and don't know if I'm in the right place to ask my question - but perhaps it follows the "double people" thread. Somehow I have a few people twice (probably from importing a file) and have tried the "merge" feature. I click it to merge, but both still end up in my list of people. What to do . . . . do I delete as Luke had to do in "double people"? Marylin

The merging feature can be very tricky as in most genealogical programs. A word of advice: you shouldn't just import GEDCOMs into an exiting data file. PAWriter will warn you of this if you attempt it, and you should follow its message in this regard. Then this duplicate person problem will not occur. See the FAQ topic "Importing GEDCOMs into an existing file" for the reasoning behind this. Best, Howard
