Two (related?) problems?
1) A mailed PAWFile (datafile) won't open on another computer
2) PAWriter on original computer now hangs when exporting GEDCOM - and creates huge GEDCOM file by the time I "force quit" it.
So, the story. I decided it was time to transfer my program & data file from my mini to my mac book, so could take to Mom's and show off where we are and get more info.
Mailed the contents of the PAWriter folder in mini's Applications folder to the notebook, and thereby installed program there. Fine. Then tried to mail the PAW datafile (~800KB) to the notebook. File was received, but PAWriter didn't recognize it when instructed to "Open existing PAWriter file". The PAWFiles should be transferable, right? Shouldn't have to go through a GEDCOM export/import, should I?
Anyway, thought maybe GEDCOM transfer would work, so exported such a file (~750KB), and mailed to my notebook. But then, PAWriter said it didn't recognize the GEDCOM file as such, when I tried to import this GEDCOM.
So back to the home computer, and tried to export the file again. I can't remember if the export hung, then, or if I aborted the export to do something else. But anyway, the export progress bar stopped about 5% into the export, and did a force-quit.
Now, another few tries at exporting a GEDCOM have yielded 5% progress on the bar, and then stops --- so force quit again -- but then realize that the program has produced a HUGE GEDCOM file (~35 MB) during the time it appeared to be hung.
I have attached my PAWFile, if that would help in diagnosis. Maybe I need to do clean installs of PAWriter on each computer? Other ideas? Maybe you could send me a GEDCOM export of all people -- if it works for you from the attached?
Thanks!
