Howard, I'm running PAWriter 86 on an intel w/Leopard. I have have a file with over 26,000 people. When I try to display descendant generation #'s on the most distant ancestor (only 8 to 10 generations) paw crashes with an error "an exception of Class StackOverflowException was not handled, application must shut down" It doesn't happen on my smaller file (~3900 people) generation #'s parse ok.
No biggie, just thought I'd pass this on.

But I'm running Leopard on a G4. I don't think that should make any difference, but maybe. Anyway, I guess the recursion is too deep in your case. I really don't want to change from the simple recursive technique to a less elegant non-recursive algorithm. At least not now. Glad it's not a biggie. Best, Howard

Howard, I think it's more a question of width of the descendant tree not depth. In my personal tree (3900 people) it can calculate 23 generations ok. Like I said, no biggie. Neal
