I found a death date on a file for an ancestor. It recorded her death under her married name. I recognised her name but could not remember whom she married in order to easily find her and annotate her notes, nor did I want to trawl through my whole index to find her. Can one access people using first names? I have wanted this option before when I had more than one generation with the same firename and wanted to show them grouped. Thanks, Alisan PS I am sure that I simply have not twigged and that the option is written into the software already.

Hi Alisan, The most direct way is to click on the Tag by Matching button in the main screen. Opposite Name enter ,Jane (a comma followed by whatever is her first name). Click Enter and then choose Only These People. Everyone with a given name of Jane will be tagged, and you can click on Find Tagged button to see the list of those people. Note that you can enter other criteria for tagging in the Tag by Matching button to narrow the search. Hold down the shift key and move the cursor over the words Type of Characteristic or the word Text to get help on this. Also read the Tag by Matching menu item in the Reference guide. Yes, the option is already written in the software and with more power as you can see. Best, Howard
