I'm struggling with how to use PAW2X to visual my family relations. I'm trying to do cluster genealogy research to attack my brick walls by researching the collateral lines. I'd like to visual the family/cousins across generations. That is, a format that would probably be landscape and have people's names in boxes, sort of like a business org chart. Is there a way to create something like this? The pedigree doesn't show siblings. And, the descendant doesn't seem to have the graphic element I'm looking for.
Also, is there a way to indicate when 1st cousins marry each other? Thanks!

I've thought about trying to do a graphic such as you mentioned, but I haven't been able to visualize it in a really general way. You might try to sketch an example or two and post it here. As to cousin marriages, you might try to make an early ancestor the current person and then choose Tag menu > Tag Descendants of This Person > Who Married Cousins. Of course, you might have to do this for various early ancestors, and it doesn't limit you to first cousins. Best regards, Howard

How would I post the graphic here? Would it be best to attach a file? Thanks so much for your earlier response.

Also, as for handling the cousin marriage, I followed an earlier suggestion you had about brothers marrying sisters. In this case, the mother of the bride and the mother of the groom are sisters. We don't know the mother's parents. But, I put both mothers into a same family unit as children. Then, I linked their children in marriage. I'm not sure what a chart of this would look like, but it seems to work on the one screen view that I get when I look at either the bride or the groom (aka the cousins) and their known parents and then their unknown grandparents. The FRIN number of the unknown grandparents is the same.

Feeling rather lost here. How exactly do you link people that are already in your database? (An extension of the cousin marrying cousin, or in my case, 2 brothers with the same wife, problem.) Robert and William are in database as brothers. Robert marries Mary. Robert dies. Mary marries William. Right now, if I add a spouse to Mary, I am adding some other guy named William and not the William that already exists. How do I add a spouse already entered in my tree?

Choose Add Another Partner from the Person menu or from the Partners button popup menu. In the resulting family window, the partner of the current person will be shown as Unknown. Click once on the Unknown entry to highlight it. Choose Find Person by Name from the Person menu (or press command-F). In the list box that appears, select (double click) the person to be added as the partner of the current person. Click Enter to create the new family for the current person. Read about these actions in the Reference Guide topics under Person menu. I suggest scanning the Reference Guide to get a good idea of the concepts and actions implemented in PAWriter. The Reference Guide is accessed by clicking on the Reference button in the main window or by choosing it from the Help menu. Also look at the info box when you click on the About Help button in the main window which will tell you about "rollover" contextual help. Best regards, Howard

Greetings This is fine and dandy but how do I print a report? How do I print the ancestry of a new born? Or the descendants of my grandfather?

First you write a report to disk using File menu > Write RTF. Then open the RTF file in Pages or Word or Nisus Writer or TextEdit or whatever word processing program you have that accepts RTF files. Then print it from there. This also gives you the chance to edit the text before printing, which you may find useful.
You can also use File menu > Write HTML and open the file in your browser and print it from there.
I suggest reading the topic Basic Reporting > HTML, RTF and MML in the PAWriter Reference Guide. Click on the Reference button in the main PAWriter window or choose Help menu > PAWriter Reference Guide. In fact, you might scan the Guide for useful info.
Also see the first paragraph in the info box displayed when you click on the About Help button in the main window, which describes "rollover" help.
Best regards, Howard
