I need very basic help. I started with one family I wanted to be able to send to a relative. Then I started another, related family, but saved them separately.
Now I wish to combine the separate families that I started.
I've never used PAF, and so need elementary instructions. Are these available somewhere?

Edna Peak Hi Edna, I'm not sure I understand what your process was. Did you create a new PAWriter data file and then enter the first family? And then create a second new PAWriter data file and then enter the second family? Or did you enter both families in the same PAWriter data file but didn't connect them through a common relative? For instructions, please click on the About Help button in the main window. That will tell you where help is available. But it won't answer your specific question. Give me more info and maybe I can help. Best regards, Howard

Hi Howard,
Happy New Year!
I’m also new to both PAW and genealogy software. I started to create a file and then noticed the same person has been entered twice as a partner to the same person (partner #1 and partner #2). Merging doesn’t apply of course in this case and “delete this person” appears to me as intending to delete the whole family.
There is no mention about this occurence in the Guide and I read the whole forum to no avail. I am a little scared as I don’t want this family’s data to be scrapped and start all over.
Would deleting both # 1 and # 2 partners and reentering the proper person again do the job without any damage or is there another and better way?

This is OK if your person of interest married the same partner twice. But that's not the case here. To delete one of the duplicated partners, make that partner the current partner. Then choose Person menu > Delete this family. Then the other partner (really the same person) will be the only remaining partner. Best, Howard
