I've had several people tagged for months, but recently their tags disappeared. I can re-tag them, but when I close and reopen the program, the tags once again are missing. Any advice?

When you quit PAWriter with the tags set, are you choosing to save the file? If you are and still lose the tags, I will send you an email to which you can reply with your data file attached and I will investigate the problem. By the way, what version of PAWriter are you using?

Yes, I save every time I close the file. I'm using Version 77.

Yes, I save every time I close the file. I'm using Version 77. Hi David, Please update to the latest version 95. It's a universal binary that solves a lot of old, rare problems. And it's much faster and the Reference Guide is embedded within the program. Here's the download link. www.lanopalera.net/Genealogy/PAWriterU.dmgBe sure to read the Read Me First file before installing and follow its directions. Note the minimum OS is 10.3 Panther. Let me know how it goes. Best, Howard P.S. Also make sure you are not opening the -bkp file which contains your info before your last save.

Thanks, Howard. I read "Read Me First" but before I'm still unsure how to preserve and transfer the entries from my existing version to the new one. Do you have an online guide to this process? I don't want to accidentally wipe out all my hard work. David

I don't want to accidentally wipe out all my hard work. David Hi David, All versions of PAWriter read and write the same data files. So there is nothing you need to convert. Just open your existing data file in the new version. Of course, you should always have a backup strategy; I usually copy my data file every day to a jump (flash) drive after I quit. Again, if you have a problem reading your data file, it's not because of PAWriter. The data file may have "lost its mind" which is why I wanted you to attach it to an email to me so I can try to fix its identity. Best, Howard

I'm smiling at the image of my data file losing its mind. Welcome to the crowd. I'll e-mail you the file as an attachment, as you requested.
