Hi Howard I have used the <Write RTF Register …> menu item successfully many times before, but have come across a new snag. Following the instructions, selecting 6 generations with notes, in a single file the resulting file is truncated - in the middle of a note - and the remaining persons and the index are missing. There should be (but are not) only 23 people and the file size is 136k. Alternatively, splitting the register after the first generation strangely gives the correct persons and index for the first file, but truncates the 2nd file at exactly the same place as before! I tried control-K but no problems were found. Am I missing something! cheers Roger
PS the html register is fine, but of course lacks an index R

Am I missing something! cheers Roger PS the html register is fine, but of course lacks an index R Hi Roger, I just generated nine generations from my current file which has 45,117 people. The resulting RTF file starting with a lady in generation 3 had 602 numbered entries and a total of 2,462 people listed. The report was complete and so was the index. I opened the report in Nisus Writer Pro, MS Word 2011, Pages, TextEdit, Tex-Edit Plus and QuickLook. The report was perfect in each case. So I don't know what happened in your system. Mine is a 3GHz Intel iMac running 10.6.4 Snow Leopard. I guess you best send me your data file as an attachment to an email so I can try to replicate your problem: hmetcalfe@roadrunnr.com. Best, Howard

Hi Howard Thanks for that - data file on its way. Roger Hi Roger, I ran an RTF Register for Hugo Purcell down 29 generations. I opened it in MS Word 2011, Nisus Writer Pro and TextEdit. Everyone was there as was the index. 139 numbered entries for 490 people in the register. So I can't replicate your problem. If you're opening the register in MS Word, you must be very patient while it loads. If it looks like it's finished, only part will display, so that may be misleading you. Keep dragging the scroll bar down until it really is finished. Best, Howard

Hi Howard
Thanks for that. I had used TextEdit as well as the "W" program, both showing the same problem. After some iterations, I have now tried deleting from its note the text paragraph at the point where the run stopped (actually the whole note text as it was the only entry) and ran the register again. This gave a perfect output including index.
There was obviously some character or something in the entry which forced the run to abort at its position. Interestingly the same text in the spouse's notes - presumably I copied & pasted as I usually do - was fine.
Thanks again for your help
Roger

I still have the file you sent me, so can you tell me which person had the note that caused the problem. Thanks, Howard AddendumHi Roger, I believe I found the problem and have corrected it. It's hard to explain except that there was some extraneous characters in the code for notes in RTF reports. The corrected program has been uploaded to the usual place but dated now as 11 November (Armistice day!): www.lanopalera.net/Genealogy/PAWriterU.dmgLet me know if all is well now or not. Best, Howard
