Hi,
I have downloaded the latest version of pawriter (v96) for Mac. I installed it on my desktop which runs Leopard (10.5). I created entries and saved the file on the Desktop. Later, I installed the same version on my laptop which runs Snow Leopard (10.6) and copied the created file with scp. I cannot seem to read the file at all when opening pawriter. First, I cannot select the file. I can do it if I use the search option. But then pawriter asks to save is as a listing file. If I say yes or no, it does not matter, pawriter does not provide any entry I entered on the desktop.
tx for any advice.

First, download the beta version 97 from www.lanopalera.net/Genealogy/beta/PAWriterU.dmg. Read and follow the instructions in the Read Me First file. Second, add the extension .paw to your data files. After adding the extension on your desktop, transfer the file with the extension to your laptop. I haven't used SSH SCP (do you mean SFTP?) to transfer files. That's sort of obscure. Try to email it, use a flash (jump) drive or use home networking for the transfer. Best, Howard

Hi,
Adding the extension worked out. I thought of this one, but I thought that pawriter would be eventually able to detect its content. But apparently v96 needs .paw.
I really meant SSH scp. Better than sftp.
Tx!

Hi, Adding the extension worked out. I thought of this one, but I thought that pawriter would be eventually able to detect its content. But apparently v96 needs .paw. I really meant SSH scp. Better than sftp. Tx! The following article indicates that the type and creator codes are sufficient to identify who should launch on a double click, etc., within one system, but not on moving a file from one platform to another. www.appleinsider.com/articles/09/09/22/inside_snow_leopards_uti_apple_fixes_the_creator_code.htmlSo the extension is now needed when moving a file. PAWriter now implements the Uniform Type Identifier noted in the article in version 96, and the beta 97 tries to enforces this. Best, Howard
