Howard:
I have 7,600+ persons in my database. When I'm doing a lot of editing, I save the database file every 5 minutes. For an hour or so, the time that it takes to do each individual save is very short (on the order of a few seconds). However, as I continue editing and saving for a couple of hours, the time that it takes to do the quick saves gets longer (up to 10 seconds or more per save). When I deem that it's taking too much time, I reset the computer and that usually returns it to the quick save time.
My guess is that there is some kind of cache that is filling up. Is there a way for me to deal with this other than restarting the entire computer?
Thanks.

Are you running Lion? There might be some interaction there. But probably not. It may be something to do with buffering internal to REALbasic runtime routines, in which case I can't avoid it but maybe quitting PAWriter and relaunching every now and then might help, rather than restarting. Maybe just logging out and in again might be more efficient than restarting, but I don't know if that would help. Best regards, Howard

Howard: I've tried restarting PAWs but that doesn't seem to help. The only thing that works is restarting the system. I guess if that's the worst problem I have, I can't complain Incidentally, I am running Lion but I had the issue with Snow Leopard too.

(Haven't tried long enough in Lion.) Best, Howard

I guess if that's the worst problem I have, I can't complain Incidentally, I am running Lion but I had the issue with Snow Leopard too. A number of Mac users have reported slowdowns when using Safari or many other programs after installing Safari 5.x. I've experienced this off and on. One symptom I've had was noted at appletoolbox.com/2010/07/safari-5-0-slow-page-loading-page-only-loads-on-second-try-fix/. Others have noted that the problem affects other programs as well. I'm running Lion on an Intel 3.06 GHz Core 2 Duo. I've not used PAWriter much recently because I need to archive old photos, audio cassettes, vinyl records and VHS tapes, so I don't know how it might affect PAWriter, but my archiving slows down after awhile. Disk utility doesn't report any problems, but I think I will repair permissions now since I haven't done that yet on Lion. Maybe I'll have more later. Best, Howard Later: no real problems with disk permissions, just: "Warning: SUID file “System/Library/CoreServices/RemoteManagement/ARDAgent.app/Contents/MacOS/ARDAgent” has been modified and will not be repaired." which doesn't seem relevant.
