You can export the contents of a draft window very simply. Just Select All (command-A) text in the draft window and drag the selected text to the desktop, creating a clipping. The clipping can be opened for reference or dragged into any application that accepts clippings. For such applications you can save a step and just drag the selected text in the draft window directly into the other application's window.
I've used this method to email a quick genealogical summary of a person on file to another researcher. (Of course, the email program should allow pasting stylized text, in some cases by turning on any HTML option first.)
You also can drag text from a timeline window in the same way.
