I've entered names with nicknames added (in quotes " "), but recently I've tried adding one which doesn't appear in the person info block. It seems that the name may be too long: Margaret "Maggie" E. Brookfield. It works without the middle initial. Since the woman was known as Maggie, I'd like to see that name in her block; however, I don't want to omit other information from the entry. Any solutions? Thanks! Leonard

Any solutions? Thanks! Leonard Hi Leonard, I entered Brookfield,Margaret E. "Maggie" into a new person's Person window. No problem. It did note that the name Maggie hadn't been entered in my file before, but that was all right. Now, because the entire name was too long to display in the block for the main screen, PAWriter automatically shortens the displayed name in the main screen. But it's still there, and will appear in all reports, e.g. as Margaret E. "Maggie" Brookfield, as well as in the Find Person window, etc. Just a matter of room in the main screen block. PAWriter follows a set of rules for shortening names that won't fit in the main screen block and the first one is to drop any nickname. In other words, you can't put ten pounds of X in a five pound bag. Best, Howard
