Q: The old MS Explorer is just about as dead as a dodo to most Mac users I would think -- the majority would be using either Firefox or a new version of Safari . Can the browser preference to open program documents be changed so it doesn't want to dive into the dungeons to find Explorer?
A: Highlight the HTML file that would launch into Explorer. Choose Get Info from the File menu. Choose Safari (or Firefox or whatever browser you are using) from the popup menu in the Get Info dialog. Click on Change All.
From now on, HTML files will automatically open in the browser you chose.
You can use this technique for other purposes, such as changing PDF files to open in Adobe Reader instead of Preview, etc.
(I chose the Explorer default for OS 9 compatibility. Maybe I will change this sometime.)
