My genealogy file has a lot of "Unknown" partners in it. I expect they were added when it was in PAF on the PC and got transferred to PAWriter when I made a gedcom out of it. I can not change these names to another name. I also can not add another child to the family. What am I doing wrong?

For instance, is a partner labeled with an italic "Unknown"? Or with a plain text "Unknown"? Or??? I've not seen a problem with unknown partners. It might be best to send me your PAWriter data file as an attachment to an email and tell me one of the people in the file that exhibits this behavior. Best, Howard

Howard,
One name is Jonathan Davis Parks - 508 born 21 May 1806
There are others in the file as well. The unknown is in italics. I can not add children to this family either.
I will send the file is a separate email.
Glen

I think I found out what I was doing wrong. I was not double clicking on the "Unknown" name. I expected to be able to just highlight the "Unknown" and start typing in the new name and that does evidently not work.

The unknown partner does not yet exist, so trying to type over the name or double clicking the unknown partner's box does not work. Right now I'm looking in your file at Jonathan Davis Parks who has an unknown partner. By double clicking on Jonathan's family button, I get the Family window. By double clicking on the unknown partner (woman line), I get the Person window. I enter the info about that woman and click Enter. By double clicking on the New Child line in the same Family window, I get the Person window. I enter the info about that child and click Enter. I then click Enter in the family window and now the partner is defined, as is the new child. Best, Howard
