Hello Howard
This program is a very impressive work. Congratulations.
I still use PAF 2.3.1 (in association with GED-companion which produces Family History and Ahnentafel printouts from a GEDCOM.) Over the years, I have looked at a lot of programs but have been dissatisfied, primarily because of input and search shortcomings.
One of the strongest search features of PAF Family Records is "Select Individual by Name/Locality..." That search looks through the entire database and lists each record where the object is found. For example, if I wanted to find all people buried in "Zanesville Cem", I would select "Zanesville Cem" from the displayed database and the program would list all occurrences. While my example is somewhat trivial, the capability is not.
I tried to determine whether you had some variation of that capability in PAWS, but could not find it. Did I miss something?
If not, would you consider implementing that sort of search in a future version?
For the record, I have about 8500 people in my main database. I use a Dual 2.3 GHz Power PC G5 and running OS X 10.4.11.
Regards, Bill Beckett

Select the place name and click Select. Then click on the Find Tagged button (if anyone is tagged). Find a tagged person's name in the list and double click on the person's name. For names you can use Tag menu > Tag People whose Names Contain. The above two menu items do the same thing as Select Individual by Name/Locality in PAF. You can also use Tag menu > Tag by Matching. Hold down the shift key and roll the cursor over a heading in the template that appears to see what you can do. This does the same thing and more as Search for Individual in PAF. Unlike Search for Individual, here you can include search items for marriages. Tagging in PAWriter is far more powerful than anything I've seen in other programs. You can do almost any search on any datum, tagging the people who qualify, and combining the tags. Check out the rest of the Tag menu and the More Tag menu. And read the reference guide topic Basic Navigation > Accessing Tagged as well as the topics for the Tag and More Tag menus. Best regards, Howard
